So finally we got a group of people together and are heading to the woods.
As a child our family would pack up and go to Lake Erie or another local campground every summer for week long camping trips. We used to have so much fun fishing, hiking and roasting marshmallows. I remember I would always bring along my roller skates because they had a big blacktopped area and I loved skating around on it.
Here's a photo of my Dad, my brother and I at Pymatuning Lake from 1986. My sister was afraid of this stuffed bear so she didn't want to be in the pic, lol. Those were good times.
I can't wait to start adding camping memories to by boy's childhoods.I'm going to start tent hunting this week and am compiling a list of supplies and campfire recipes. So far my shopping list looks like this:
- ingredients for s'mores
- boy's backpacks filled with field guides, magnifying glasses, etc.
- bug box
- cutesy teapot for tea and hot cocoa
- sleeping bags
- kid's boots
- Triaminic Vaporized Patches (thanks to Marta who posted that kids get stuffy from campfire smoke)
- toilet paper
- first-aid kit
- chairs
- a good book + my diary
- sleeping bags
- tent
- dutch oven
- bug repellant
The person with the best ideas will get a special surprise--handmade by me!

I hope you have moved a lot farther south! We have a chance of snow here in Ohio by this weekend. We love to make pie iron pizzas and pie iron apple pie. The last time we went camping a man we met said he makes s'mores in the pie iron but with angel food cake slices instead of graham crackers. yum.
Aww, I miss camping! We used to go a lot when I was younger. It'd be my mom and her coworkers and their children, who were my age. We used to always set up next to a creek and I remember how awesome it was falling asleep next to something so peaceful. There was one night, however, when we heard some strange growling outside, REALLY close to the tents. Someone started shouting that it was a bear, but it just turned out to be my mom's friend dressed up in a costume to freak us out. I'd advise not to do that, hahaha. It scared me so badly.
I think you guys are set, though, from this list. Oh, maybe a guitar for music to sing along with around the campfire? That's always fun. :]
Great blog!
Come on over and accept your award:)
That sounds like so much fun and you're right wonderful memories. I'm not much of a camper, have only done it a couple times but remember those times fondly. It's amazing how time slows down when you're camping. Hope you have a blast!
Don't forget flashlights. They'll be useful when it gets dark, just making your way around and of course kids love playing with them too.
Back again to let you know, you have an award waiting for you on my blog. Come on over and pick it up when you get a chance. Congrats!
